Obama aide hits back over charge of being soft

Barack Obama’s senior anti-terrorism adviser conceded that the US should have done better in identifying the threat from the alleged Detroit bomber, but also rebuked Dick Cheney, the former US vice-president, for calling the president soft on terror.

John Brennan, a 20-year counter-terrorism veteran, said the system to share intelligence between official agencies was not “broken . . . but  clearly there are ways to improve [it]”.
