HK still 'world's freest economy'

Hong Kong was ranked the world's freest economy for the 11th consecutive year by the Heritage Foundation yesterday, but the US think- tank warned that the introduction of a sales tax would be negative for the territory, while press freedom was deteriorating.

Singapore finished second, also for the 11th year running, in the 2005 Index of Economic Freedom, which ranks countries on the basis of criteria such as trade policy and tax regimes.
