North Sea in decline but plenty still to extract

The exploration focus of global energy companies has moved elsewhere, but the North Sea remains an important source of oil and gas – and will continue to be so for years to come.

Production last year from the UK continental shelf (UKCS) averaged just under 1bn barrels of oil equivalent (boe), or 2.64m boe per day, a decline of 5 per cent on the previous year.
