Burnham tackles football on club finances

Premier League clubs felt the weight of government on their shoulders on Thursday when Andy Burnham, the culture secretary, demanded in three months answers to the financial and business concerns he believes are afflicting football.

Mr Burnham laid out seven areas of concern, including transparency of club finances and debt, insolvency risks, the league’s “fit and proper persons” rule for owners and the number of foreign players.
