The construction industry faces a “lost decade” which will prevent a return to recent levels of activity until close to 2020, according to industry forecasts.

The sector will decline by 16 per cent this year and a further 5 per cent in 2010 and will only touch bottom the following year, at which point it will record a modest 0.5 per cent growth, according to the Construction Products Association (CPA).
