US defends release of N Korea funds

The White House on Monday defended a deal to release frozen North Korean assets in the face of criticism that it had capitulated to demands from Pyongyang.

Earlier Monday in Beijing, US officials announced that the US Treasury had reached an agreement with Pyongyang to return $25m that had been frozen in Macao’s Banco Delta Asia since 2005.
