There is no end in sight to the financial woes of a middle class struggling to afford private school fees amid the credit crunch, according to research carried out for the Financial Times.
Charges for sixth formers among the country's top institutions by A-level results rose by an average of 6 per cent in 2007-8 - far above retail price inflation in the year to September, and less than a percentage point below 2006-7 increases.
