Obama to strengthen ties with Mexico

President Felipe Calderón of Mexico on Monday proposed a strategic alliance with Barack Obama, US president-elect, in which security would top a long list of bilateral issues.

The proposal, which Mr Calderón made following a private lunch in Washington with Mr Obama, aims to place more responsibility for combating drugs in Mexico on the shoulders of the incoming administration.
