Flotation of BBC Worldwide ruled out

The governing body of the BBC ruled out any substantial flotation of the broadcaster’s commercial arm on Thursday, while the director general defended his organisation from accusations that it wielded too much power.

Sir Michael Lyons, chairman of the BBC Trust, said it “wouldn’t contemplate” a loss of direct control over the sale of television programmes and merchandise that had been produced using licence fee money.
