Standing in his top-floor Fleet Street office, Steve Corcoran, Speedy Hire’s chief executive, looks across the rooftops that peel off towards the river and points to a window in which a few white-shirted men sitting at paper strewn desks are framed.

“Lawyers,” he explains. “They used to be in here, but had to scale down and moved into that place. That’s the recession.”
