Citi poaches Lloyds TSB’s retail chief

Citigroup has been forced to tap outside talent to turn round its troubled US consumer business, the financial services group’s largest division, hiring Terri Dial from Lloyds TSB in the UK.

1973 Joined Wells Fargo after completing political science degree at Illinois Northwestern University

1973-74 Management trainee and various operations roles

1975-77 Loan officer, then branch manager

1977-98 Positions in consumer and small business banking, consumer credit, savings and investments

1998-2001 President and chief executive and member of management committee

2001-2005 Various non-executive roles including independent director of Washington-based Onyx Software

June 2005 Appointed executive director UK retail banking at Lloyds TSB

March 2008 Announces departure from Lloyds TSB

The appointment of Ms Dial to replace Steven Freiberg as head of the consumer business is a remarkable reversal for Citigroup, which was once famous for nurturing executives coveted by rivals around the world.
