We’re racing ahead, Fillon tells Le Mans rally

Of almost 8,000 candidates contesting France’s parliamentary elections, the first round of which takes place on Sunday, 11 have much to lose and little to gain.

The 11 are members of the incoming centre-right government nominated by France’s new president Nicolas Sarkozy and led by François Fillon, the urbane prime minister-designate.
