Battle against inflation not quite won, warns Bernanke

When Ben Bernanke uttered the words “there are some indications that inflation pressures are beginning to diminish”, the markets breathed a collective sigh of relief.

The chairman of the Federal Reserve, though, made it clear that he is not yet claiming victory over inflation. The monthly data were “noisy”, he cautioned, and it would be “some time before we can be confident that underlying inflation is moderating as anticipated”.
