Pfizer’s inhaled diabetes drug clears hurdle

Pfizer on Thursday cleared a hurdle for Exubera, the first inhaled insulin treatment for diabetes, when a US medicines regulatory advisory panel recommended approval.

The backing by the Food and Drug Administration experts panel brings Exubera into the home stretch after a three-year delay in a long, complex journey to market. The FDA typically follows the recommendations of its experts panels, and a formal decision could come by late October.
