NZ leads tributes to Sir Edmund Hillary

Helen Clark, New Zealand’s prime minister, led the tributes to one of the greatest adventurers of the 20th century, calling Sir Edmund Hillary “the best-known New Zealander ever to have lived”.

The passing of the pioneering New Zealand adventurer who became world famous after becoming the first man to conquer Mount Everest in 1953 was a profound loss to the country, Ms Clark said on Friday.
