Labour chief sees chance in poll

The rapid turnaround in the government’s political fortunes was underscored on Friday when the Scottish secretary said Labour now had a “fighting chance” of winning next week’s crucial Glenrothes by-election.

In an interview with the FT, Jim Murphy admitted that, until recently, the government appeared on course to lose the seat, vacated by the death of John MacDougall in the summer.
