Shares in Tabcorp and Tattersall’s, Australia’s two largest off-track betting groups, fell on Thursday as the country’s first outbreak of equine flu spread to racehorses and forced the cancellation of all races in Sydney for at least two months.
Equine flu poses a serious threat to the country’s multi-billion dollar horserace betting industry and the outbreak comes on the eve of the country’s lucrative spring racing season.
