Calls to postpone flexible working rejected

Employers have less than eight months to prepare for an extra 4.5m staff gaining the right to request flexible working after the government yesterday rejected business pleas to delay the regulations in the face of the economic downturn.

Under plans released by the department of business, parents with children as old as 16 would have the right to ask their employers for flexible working hours from April. Currently this option is limited to parents of children aged up to six.
