Gordon Brown’s pledge on apprenticeships

Gordon Brown, UK prime minister, pledged to overhaul the apprenticeship system on Wednesday in an attempt to re-invigorate a key part of his campaign to keep young people in education or training until they are 18.

In his first major speech on education since becoming prime minister, Mr Brown promised to bring budding apprentices and businesses together through a UCAS-style matching service.
