Successful summit is a must for Brown

Gordon Brown declared last year – in a celebrated Freudian slip – that “we have saved the world”. The British prime minister is nothing if not ambitious and fervently believes great things can be achieved at the G20 summit in London.

It is hard to imagine a more appropriate host for the summit. Mr Brown’s decade as Britain’s chancellor of the exchequer gives him a mastery of the detail of international finance rare among world leaders.
