Eurozone's driving force grinds to a halt

The eurozone recession is turning rapidly into the worst seen in postwar continental Europe, with Germany leading the way down.

The 1.5 per cent reduction in eurozone gross domestic product in the fourth quarter, reported yesterday by Eurostat, the European Union's statistics office, means the 16-country region fared as badly as the UK, where falling house prices and banking woes created a greater sense of gloom.
