Cardinals drop hints on Pope’s successor

Roman Catholic cardinals from across the world on Monday took their first important decision of the post-John Paul II era by deciding that the late pope would be buried in St Peter's Basilica on Friday.

The announcement was made as several cardinals began to drop hints about the kind of spiritual leader they would prefer to inherit the job left vacant last Saturday when John Paul died after a reign of more than 26 years.
