Airlines raise fuel surcharges

The airline industry has started to impose another round of increases in fuel surcharges on airfares in response to the latest surge in crude oil prices.

American Airlines, the world’s biggest carrier said that it was increasing its fuel surcharge by $10 per flight leg or sector to $65 ($20 to $130 for a round trip) on most of its transatlantic and transpacific routes, excluding Japan.
