Tiger stalks rival airlines over Australia

The launch of Tiger Airways into the Australian market next month will be a watershed moment for the domestic aviation sector, currently dominated by Virgin Blue and the Qantas group.

The arrival of the Singapore-based budget airline is the latest attempt to break the duopoly that has long existed in Australia, and comes amid a reshaping of the regional aviation sector spearheaded by low-cost airlines, start-ups and expanding Middle Eastern carriers.
