Darling says supervisory system needs overhaul

Britain’s system of financial supervison needs to be changed, Alistair Darling, chancellor of the exchequer, told MPs on Thursday, as he admitted there were “lessons to be learned” from the Northern Rock crisis.

Appearing before the influential House of Commons Treasury select committee, Mr Darling said “some clarification” would be needed of the respective responsibilities of the Bank of England and the Financial Services Authority.
