Legal deal ‘model for other cases’

A landmark deal under which three oil industry executives will be sent from the US to plead guilty in Britain’s first price-fixing prosecution could be a model for future cases, a top US justice department official said on Thursday.

Thomas O. Barnett, assistant attorney-general for antitrust, hit back at suggestions that the three faced “double jeopardy” by being tried for essentially the same crime in two countries.
