New chief takes delivery of a challenging flight plan

Willie Walsh has had five months to learn the ropes from Sir Rod Eddington. But from the weekend the induction period ends and he will start to fly solo as chief executive of British Airways.

Mr Walsh, 43, a former pilot, comes to BA from Aer Lingus, the Irish state-owned airline, which he saved from the brink of bankruptcy.
