HNA to merge Hainan with its other carriers

HNA, one of China's four airline conglomerates, is preparing to merge its Shanghai-listed arm Hainan Airlines with five other carriers controlled by the group.

The restructuring, part of a trend among leading Chinese airlines to consolidate their operations after a wave of acquisitions in recent years, is intended to cut costs and raise profits. It could also help to open the way for an overseas listing by HNA's airline operations.
