Delay for digital book settlement

Google and representatives of the US book publishing industry yesterday delayed announcing changes to their controversial digital books settlement until the end of this week as they continued to hold discussions with the Department of Justice over the case.

They agreed to make the changes after widespread objections to the plan, which would give Google rights to display extracts and sell digital copies of millions of books it scanned without first seeking permission.
