UK supermarket shake-up seen

Leading UK supermarkets are bracing themselves for a shake-up of rules on suppliers, planning and local market share as part of a long-awaited investigation to be published within days by the competition watchdog.

Tesco and other big grocery retailers have fought a rearguard action to prevent radical change, but they expect the Competition Commission to respond to complaints about prices paid to farmers and supermarkets’ accumulation of “banks” of unused land.
