German absence from G7 raises eyebrows

When finance ministers from the world's seven richest nations gather in Washington at the spring meeting of the International Monetary Fund next weekend, one of them will be notable by his absence.

While his colleagues get down to work, Peer Steinbrück, German finance minister, whose country currently chairs the Group of Seven, will be surveying the African wildlife with his family on holiday in Namibia.
