Equitable group drops legal action

Equitable Life policyholders are dropping their legal action against the parliamentary ombudsman in the light of her decision to hold a wider probe into the troubled mutual. The Equitable Members' Action Group said that Ann Abraham had "met almost all the concerns which caused EMAG to resort to litigation", and that it believed its resources were now better applied to the new investigation.

"Iain Ogilvie, who is leading the PO's new team, asked for and is receiving EMAG's very active participation," said Colin Slater, EMAG's chairman.
