Online sales deliver a fillip to Shop Direct

Consumers seeking online bargains boosted sales at Shop Direct, which owns Littlewoods and Woolworths.co.uk, helping earnings to nearly treble last year.

The private company, owned by Sir Frederick and Sir David Barclay, saw like-for-like sales rise 7.4 per cent to £1.7bn in the year to April 30.
