Roche close to deal with WHO on bird flu drug

Roche, the Swiss pharmaceuticals group, is close to agreeing a donation of up to 3m doses of its antiviral drug Tamiflu to the World Health Organisation in an effort to limit the effects of any bird flu pandemic.

The action would help provide rapid treatment and protection against the H5N1 virus in the poorer countries in south-east Asia most likely to be initially affected, and prevent the spread of the virus around the world.
