Year-end rally belies concern over credit outlook

Global equities ended the last full trading week of the year with a flourish, helped by reports that yet another leading US bank had secured investment from overseas to shore up its balance sheet.

But the underlying mood remained cautious amid persistent anxiety about the credit outlook, in spite of massive injections of liquidity into the money markets by the world's central banks.
