Al Gore has so far resisted the temptation to launch a second bid for the White House in next year’s US presidential election.

But even if the former vice-president-turned-environmental activist remains on the sidelines, Mr Gore has helped catapult climate change from the fringes of US political debate into an issue no presidential candidate can afford to ignore.
