TV industry faces financial crisis

After a year spent worrying about the effect of phone-in scandals and upsetting the Queen, the television industry’s 2008 Edinburgh love-in woke up to the reality that there are far more serious threats looming.

Speakers at the Edinburgh television festival repeatedly drew attention to the economic problems facing the industry, with the prospect of recession threatening funding for public-service broadcasting (PSB) and net-produced programmes taking audiences from traditional media.
