Russia-Ukraine gas talks end in failure

Russia looked set to cut gas supplies to Ukraine after talks over a deal broke down on Wednesday. Gazprom now looks likely to reduce supplies on January 1 as promised.

Alexei Miller, the president of Gazprom, said the talks had finished “without results”. He said earlier that “Ukraine is taking an unconstructive stance in negotiations with the Russian Federation about gas supplies in 2009.”
