The unconventional style of former Legal & General chief investment strategist Julien Garran is far more suited to the world of hedge funds, judging by his blog.
Before taking over the sunken commodities fund of former Enron trader Tim Whyte at Sofaer Capital, Mr Garran ran a leveraged global macro portfolio on his own account and had time to keep a riveting blog. The former chief commodities strategist, head of European equity strategy and then chief hedge fund strategist at ABN Amro, talks about everything from the vicissitudes of trading from home, quotes from Spinal Tap ('It's a fine line between clever and stupid'), a critique of Hans Holbein's 'The Ambassadors' painting, following Warren Buffett's investment guru Charlie Munger and concatenation.
