After six years of rapid growth, Poland is braced for a slowdown, although its leaders are convinced it can escape the worst of the global crisis.

The centre-right government of Donald Tusk, which won power a year ago, takes comfort from the resilience Poles have shown overcoming many economic and political shocks since the collapse of communism in 1989.
