Shell joins carbon capture plant race

Royal Dutch Shell will on Thursday enter the government-sponsored race to build a carbon capture and storage plant in the UK – becoming the only major oil company to do so.

It will join the consortium led by Scottish Power, one of three groups of bidders for government funding to build the first commercial-scale system to demonstrate the carbon capture and storage techniques that experts say will be vital to combat climate change.
