Waitrose sales support John Lewis

John Lewis Partnership on Thursday joined other UK high street retailers in offering a cautious outlook for the coming months, even as the department store and supermarket chain admitted the business was building momentum.

Charlie Mayfield, chairman, said the recession was proving to be “a bit shallower than expected” but forecast that 2010 could be difficult. “We foresee a slow, drawn-out economic recovery.”
