Sir, As a Hong Kong citizen, I do not agree with Michael B. Sandpearl's view that "a precursor to establishing a successful democracy in Hong Kong is to widen the tax base so that at least the majority of working people have a financial interest in the policies of their elected government" (Letters, September 14).
