US acts to delay drive to fill senior EBRD post

US objections have delayed efforts to appoint a new senior vice-president at the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, the multilateral bank for the former communist bloc.

The recruitment campaign began nearly a year ago, in February 2005, when Noreen Doyle, the former senior EBRD vice-president, announced plans to leave the bank, which she did last August.
