FBI launches inquiry into Iraq contracts

The Federal Bureau of Investigation has launched an investigation into whether Halliburton, the company formerly headed by Vice-President Dick Cheney, improperly received multi-billion dollar contracts in Iraq.

With just four days until the presidential election, news of the FBI inquiry was seized on by Democrats, who have previously alleged that the Houston-based oil services company received preferential treatment in Iraq because of its association with the vice-president.
