Electronic Data Systems, the US information technology company, on Monday scorned the “absurd and extravagant” £709m court action launched against it by British Sky Broadcasting.

EDS lawyers told the High Court that BSkyB had brought the “artificial” damages claim as part of an effort to escape a £48m contract it had awarded EDS to build a state-of-the-art customer care centre.
