Thailand offers olive branch to Thaksin

Thailand’s four-month-old government, under pressure from demonstrations by opposition groups, has offered an olive branch to its most potent adversary, Thaksin Shinawatra, the former prime minister.

“If talks can bring peace to the country, I am ready to meet him . . . Thaksin is the only person that can end the siege,” Suthep Thaugsuban, deputy prime minister, said on Wednesday.
