Lebanese mark war anniversary with show of unity

Throngs of Lebanese took to the streets yesterday, not for yet another demonstration but to participate in the "National Unity Initiative" festival to mark 30 years after the start of Lebanon's civil war.

The festivities kicked off with a marathon under the slogan "United we run", which saw tens of thousands of men, women and children, including disabled people, run through Beirut as white doves were released.
