Brussels in fresh threat to mobile groups

Viviane Reding, the European Union media commissioner, has put herself on a new collision course with mobile telephone companies by threatening to introduce rules that could curtail an important source of their income.

Ms Reding enraged the industry last year by forcing operators to cut the roaming fees paid by consumers when using their mobiles while abroad.
