US launches probe into Google Voice

Responding to a complaint from AT&T, the US Federal Communications Commission has launched an investigation into Google Voice’s practice of blocking calls to some phone numbers.

The regulator sent Google a letter on Friday asking the company to explain its reasons for blocking the calls, and noted that phone companies are prevented from lowering costs by refusing to put calls through to rural areas.
